Sometimes in life we don’t know who to turn to. We can feel stuck, like the world is spinning around us and it’s all we can do to catch up. And when we do catch up, sometimes that doesn’t feel quite right either. So what’s a woman to do?
I know I used to struggle with this in my 20s and my 30s. When life got a little off-kilter, I would ask my friends, my mother, my mentors for help instead of turning to the only person who really knew me best: me. Learning this lesson has been a journey, but once I was able to grasp it, that’s when my life started to shape up in a way that I loved.
If you ever struggle with listening to your own wisdom, you’re going to love today’s blog post. It’s written by Lindsey of libreliving.com. Lindsey is a dear friend, and someone I trust. That’s why I’m blessed to be able to share her work 8 Ways to Be Your Own Guide for Life with you now.

I just got back from a trip to Turkey with my daughter Jasmine. It was incredible. I actually got to see the very place where my father proposed to my mother so many years ago. Standing there with my own child was one of the most surreal moments of my life, and I will remember it always. I know Jasmine will too.
It’s hard to give ourselves gifts like that when we run our own businesses. It would have been easy to tell Jasmine that we’ll take that trip later, when things have slowed down or when there’s a bigger padding in the bank account. I could have put it off, set it on that dusty old shelf labeled “someday” and never picked it up again—the lonely fate of so many of the items on that shelf.
But I didn’t. I made the conscious decision to go. Everything else would sort itself out: the time I needed, the cost of the trip, the responsibilities of my business. All of it would be fine. All of it WAS fine.
How many times in a day do we tell ourselves that we can’t do something? That we just need more time, more money, more experience, more x? And how many times do we actually follow through with those things in the end?
In this blog, I want to introduce you to the one practice that can make all of it possible. It costs no money, and you can start right now, in this instant. You don’t need to take a course or buy a book or get permission from anyone. All you need is you.
